Nature’s greatest light show captured from the city

The Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, is a natural light display predominantly seen in high-latitude regions around the Arctic Circle. It occurs when charged particles from the sun interact with Earth’s magnetic field, creating colorful bands, curtains, or arcs of light in the sky. The colors are typically green, pink, red, blue, or purple, depending on the type of gas particles being excited. It’s a breathtaking phenomenon often sought after by travelers and photographers.

The solar storms of May 2024 are a series of powerful solar storms with intense to extreme solar flare and geomagnetic storm components that have been ongoing since 10 May 2024 during solar cycle 25. The geomagnetic storm was the most powerful to affect Earth since 2003, and produced aurorae at far lower latitudes than usual in both northern and southern hemispheres
