Taken near the Horse Shoe Bend in Page, Arizona
The red rocks of Arizona are made up of a type of sandstone called Navajo Sandstone. This rock is characterized by its reddish color, which is caused by the presence of iron oxide (rust) in the rock.
Page was founded in 1957 as a housing community for workers building the Glen Canyon Dam. The dam, which spans the Colorado River and forms Lake Powell, was completed in 1963.
Page is a popular filming location, with several movies and TV shows shot in the area over the years. Some notable examples include “Planet of the Apes,” “Maverick,” “Doctor Who,” and “Westworld.”
In addition to Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon, Page is also home to other lesser-known natural attractions, including the Toadstool Hoodoos, a group of whimsical rock formations; and the Rimrocks, a series of sandstone cliffs that provide sweeping views of the surrounding landscape.
Page is a popular destination for stargazing, with several nearby parks and wilderness areas offering unobstructed views of the night sky. The area is known for its clear, dark skies and lack of light pollution.
