This is the largest high elevation lake(above 7,000 feet / 2,134 m) in North America. Yellowstone Lake is a freshwater lake that remains cold year-round, with an average water temperature of 41°F (5°C).
If one could pour all the water out of Yellowstone Lake, what would be found on the bottom is similar to what is found on land in Yellowstone: geysers, hot springs, and deep canyons.
Under the seemingly placid waters of Yellowstone Lake lies the collapsed remains of a super-volcano that erupted 640,000 years ago.
The lake has a beautiful backdrop of the Absaroka Mountain Range, which is sub-range of the Rocky Mountains.
