The redesigned Seattle Aquarium at the Waterfront
The Seattle Aquarium’s new Ocean Pavilion is a significant expansion that opened on August 29, 2024. This $160 million project features a nearly 500,000-gallon habitat called “The Reef,” showcasing species from the Coral Triangle, including leopard sharks and eagle rays. The pavilion includes three main habitats: “The Reef,” “The Archipelago,” and “At Home in the Ocean,” designed for different age groups. It also offers immersive technology experiences in “One Ocean Hall” and a rooftop plaza with views of Elliott Bay and Mount Rainier. The building is designed to be sustainable, operating 100% fossil-fuel free.
